With the increasing penetration of Inverter-Based Resources (IBRs) in power systems, new stability challenges are emerging. Several incidents of adverse control interactions among IBRs have been reported by various utilities around the world, including in India. Several new challenges are likely to emerge as “grid-forming” capabilities are introduced in inverter control. The analysis and mitigation of these problems is therefore of great practical interest. In this context, a workshop was arranged by NCPRE on “Impact of Inverter-based Resources on Power Systems.” The workshop focused on IBR controls and grid interactions; generic modeling of inverter-based resources; and present and future scenario in India for grid-integration of renewable energy. The speakers included Prof Vijay Vittal from Arizona State University, and faculty members from IIT Bombay.
