As reported in July 2025 Newsletter, work is on-going at NCPRE to assess the energy yield and the LCOE of different technologies, especially perovskite-silicon tandem solar cells, in various climatic conditions such as temperature and irradiation. This work, based on detailed modelling and simulation, is being undertaken by Prof. Pradeep Nair and his students. It is possible to choose the best bandgap for the perovskite used in a tandem solar cell which results in optimum LCOE. An example of the results for Mumbai are shown below. The work has now been published: K. Raitani and Pradeep Nair, ACS Applied Energy Materials 2025, https://doi.org/10.1021/acsaem.5c01634.
Results for a tandem in Mumbai showing monthly variation in temperature (a) and irradiation (b), and the resultant LCOE depending on perovskite bandgap EgT and degradation rate d (c).
